Harvard Latino Vangard Award

The HLAA Vanguard Award is one of our highest distinctions. It honors individuals who, through visionary leadership, have shaped institutions, expanded opportunity, and created enduring impact across sectors. The award is presented to those who exemplify legacy leadership — those whose influence will be felt for generations.

Nomination Criteria:

 

  • ⁠Harvard alum, faculty, or affiliate with alumni status.

  • Visionary leadership with enduring impact across business, industries, or commerce

  • Distinguished achievement across the business AND nonprofit sectors

  • ⁠Leadership that has created economic value and has expanded opportunity, representation, or access for others

  • ⁠A sustained record of leadership, influence, innovation, and service at scale

  • ⁠A legacy of leadership whose impact is expected to endure across generations

Harvard Latino of the Year Award

The Latino of the Year award honors an individual who has made an outstanding impact in the past year through leadership, innovation, or advocacy within their field or within their community. This honoree exemplifies excellence and has significantly elevated the visibility and voice of the Latino community through their work.

Nomination Criteria: 

 

  • Harvard alum, faculty, or affiliate with alumni status.

  • Demonstrated extraordinary contributions or achievements within the past 12–18 months.

  • Leadership that has made a tangible impact—particularly in underrepresented, underserved, or marginalized communities to increase access to resources and opportunities. 

  • Reflects the values of integrity, courage, and social responsibility in line with HLAA.

Harvard Latino Faculty Award

The Harvard Latino Faculty Award recognizes a current associate or tenured professor at Harvard University who exemplifies academic excellence and intellectual leadership. This award honors a faculty member whose distinguished research, published scholarship, and contributions to pedagogy have advanced the frontiers of their field. In addition to scholarly achievement, the recipient demonstrates a sustained commitment to supporting students and the Harvard community through mentorship and advocacy. 

Nomination Criteria:

 

  • Current associate professors and fully tenured professors at Harvard University. 

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching, mentorship, or research related to their field. 

  • Actively supports Latino students, scholars, and/or initiatives at Harvard.

  • Track record of research and academic excellence, published works or discoveries that have pushed the limits of understanding in their field, pedagogy, and leadership within the Harvard community

Harvard Latino Young Alumni Award

The HLAA Young Alumni Award celebrates an emerging leader who has demonstrated exceptional promise, innovation, and commitment to community in the early stages of their career. This award recognizes a Harvard graduate who embodies the spirit of social responsibility, excellence, and visionary leadership.

Nomination Criteria: 

 

  • Harvard alumn who graduated within the last 10 years (graduated in or after the Class of 2016)

  • Early career accomplishments that show clear trajectory and impact.

  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing  innovation within their industry or within the community.

  • Engagement with the Harvard community and/or active service in local, national, or international initiatives.

Harvard Latino Community Award

The HLAA Community Award honors an institution, organization, or individual that serves as a vibrant focal point of community life for Latinos, advancing cultural pride, economic opportunity, and social cohesion. This award celebrates entities that go beyond commerce or service, weaving themselves into the social fabric of neighborhoods by uplifting voices, building connections, and championing inclusion and visibility. The honoree embodies the spirit of community as home — a place where people are welcomed, culture is celebrated, and community thrives
